The CDL skills test

The road half: pre-trip, basic vehicle control, and the drive. This site does not prepare you for it, and says so plainly.

The CDL process has two halves. The written knowledge tests this site practises are one; the skills test is the other. They are different exams, on different days, and they test different things.

The skills test has three parts. The pre-trip inspection is verbal and from memory: you walk around the vehicle and tell the examiner what you are checking and why. The basic vehicle control part has you demonstrate control in a yard — backing, turning, and moving the vehicle precisely. The on-road drive puts you in traffic with the examiner.

Nothing on this site trains anyone for any of it. A written practice site cannot rehearse a road test, and pretending otherwise would mislead a candidate who needs actual training from a registered provider. Your state’s manual and a registered training provider are the sources for the skills test.
